Marathon Wednesday

I was due to head over to Tim W's place and run long at 9,000 ft elevation today but he emailed and said they got 6-8" of snow and it was still coming down.  With the bald tires on my car it maneuvers in snow like a greased down air hockey puck.  Plus, I could sense the fear in Tim's email - concerned of my outrageous speed and endurance.  So, I opted to run long from my place.  It was chilly and I was worried I overdressed by wearing (for the first time) my metro-sexual CWX tights, my Southpark Racefest half marathon jacket (a race I've never run but rode in the lead police car in 2004), my Pacific Coast Trails Hat (I've never finished one of their races), and my Montrail Streaks (best company in the world, well they're okay, I guess).  The outfit ended up being pretty comfortable.  I think it actually got a little colder halfway through the run and light snow flurries accompanied the drop in temp.

After about 22 miles on the flat S. Boulder Creek path I convinced myself to head over to the U of CO cross country course and do a lap there before dragging myself up the last mile to my place.  I don't have a fancy watch like Tim W but if I did and if it showed more than just minutes and seconds on the chrono, there'd be a "3" in front of the numbers:

One of these days I'll take the time to learn how to use my camera too.

All in all a good run for me.  No pains, steady enough pace.  And done on the worst weather day of the week (sunny and 60's the rest of the week).

27+ miles

3 hrs 40 mins

  1. Pretty tights, but they hide those calfs you like to show off on your blog...?? WTF?

    Nice run!

  2. Nice view of Bear... I was looking down at it, when the blizzard would ease up enough, for most of my run. Seriously... I love the watch.

  3. The tights are fun as long as I, A) wear a long enough shirt/jacket OR B) wear shorts over them.

  4. 22 miles on SBC? Is that like back and forth six times from the Bobolink?

  6. The snow is getting a bit old. We've had a couple storms since you were through here and the wind has been ever present. Nice weather window today (mid 60's and sunny) but more rain and snow this weekend...yea!

I agree with you on the tights...I wear them but I feel very self conscious when I do. Strange that we were both moderately competitive cyclists and feel strange in tights?.

  7. Hi Darren,
After three solid months of rain, I'm not in the mood for precipitation in any form. Outfits we wear ON the bike are cool when we're riding but a child's nightmare inducing image when we clomp into a coffee shop post ride.

Those exposed trails there must melt almost immediately after a snow.
