Done did it

So, I ran and completed (too bad, so sad, dnf wishers) the bear 100 yesterday/today. Though I achieved my goal solidly, my initial thoughts go to the hour worth of aid station lingering and the 2 mile detour (over 20 mins) due to vandalized course markings and my haste. Live and learn. I'm stunned with my time as it is. I got behind on my splits after going off course and became a different person in the second half, running nearly every step all the way through to the finish. I couldn't have done it without Aric's generous and kind help crewing. I'm also extremely satisfied I ran solo (sans pacer) for 100 (102) miles, though pined for the company on a couple of occasions.

Time: 23:05 (so, those who voted for the sub 24 hr finish are smart cookies)
Place: 9th

Just realized they have Phil lowery ahead of me but he started an hour ahead so his actual time is 23:43. Thus, I'm in 9th!
Nice.

  1. Dang, dude! That is seriously excellent. Congrats on getting that done. Sounds like some good stories to tell, too.

  2. Outstanding, chief. Never a doubt except for that "100 milers-are-F ing-crazy" clause. Go wolverine on them non-believers. And have a lot of beer. Congrats!

  3. I'd love to show off the buckle but at the prerace meeting on thurs Leland (race director) announced that he forgot to order them on time and will have to mail them out. I have to admit that I bought a new belt and brought it to Utah with me. I have no idea why but getting that buckle was a top priority. However, today is the awards ceremony and I'll get a cool plaque, so I'll post a phot of it asap.
Thanks a bunch for those who actually believed I'd finish. Doubt crept into my mind about the sub 24 a couple of brief moments when I was behind my tight splits but in the last twenty five miles I picked off over ten places and brought my time substantially down by over 1.5 hrs giving me a solid cusion at mile 85 when I pulled out of there at 140am.

  7. Ha! Suck it DNF preDICKtors...
Wish I could have been part of your day man, but my thoughts were out there. Can't wait to hear some of the details and to see the buckle.

  8. Pretty badass, I am so stoked for you!!

I was thinking about you often while you were on course and checking live results periodiaclly, but instead of listing the results by placing, the results were listed alphabetically (and still are I think), so I found it to be frustrating and gave up (maybe I missed something too, as I was hurriedly checking while at the hospital). If the race solicits any feedback, results by place vs. alphabetical would be sweet, or a way to toggle back and forth.

  9. Refer to the Roosevelt comments about the man in the arena and the critic (google) in regards to those who predicted DNF.

WOLVERINE. Can't wait to see this buckle. You and Tim running with those plates on ought to give me a fair chance to keep up.

    And yes - BALLS.

  10. Congratulations Tim!!! We're so proud of you! It was awesome hanging out with you at Leadville for the first 50 and cheering you on and loading you up with supplies for the final 50. There was never a doubt in our minds you'd kill this race!

  11. So now there will be a couple of you wearing nothing but belt buckles in the jump castles at the local kids parties huh...

Splits never get better in 100 mile runs...they just never do. Well okay I guess you just changed that.

    Awesome job!

  13. Thanks!

I've been walking around town in my speedo, belt buckle, and cowboy boots yelling, "who's got your 100 miles now?!" Funny enough, now I'm spending the evening in a cell with a hairy guy wearing mascara.
