Bear 100 quick recap

Finished bear 100 miler in 25:41. 22,000 ft of climbing starting in the wasatch mtns of Utah and finishing at bear lake in Idaho. Quadriceps were shot after 65 mi and basically walked it in the last 30mi. Disappointing but finished.

Big congratulations to my buddy Nick Pedatella for taking the win in 20:55.

  1. I'm 110% impressed and you KNOW why! Simply amazing year of running (and it's not over yet). You should hibernate this winter.

  2. Way to go man! No kidding, what a season.

Gee I can't understand why your quads were feeling it, the race profile was merely a 100-mile, 3,000-foot high saw blade pattern. Piece of cake. Seriously, looked brutal.

  4. Thanks Darren and Jeff. Never been in that much pain before. The last 3,000 ft elevator drop descent was making me nauseous and dizzy from the pain. When I said Bear makes Leadville seem like an easy out-n-back jog, I wasn't joking. Leadville is the easiest of the 100s I've done. Bear is the hardest. Hardrock isn't in the same league, so cannot be compared.
GZ, if I'm registered for it, then I suppose I'll do it. If I can walk sometime between now and then.

  5. Congratulations Tim - you are an inspiration! What a year you are having. That is two absolute monsters you have done - oh, and then throw in three other hard ones on top of it. Animal..... ;-)

  6. That's a tough race to finish with no quads. Way to tough it out.

  7. Jon, way to represent South Carolina this weekend!

Tim, I thought about you this weekend (your HR100 run in particular). I was doing a 24 hour event this weekend to raise money for my daughter who has Type 1 Diabetes. My only running goal was to break my PR at 50 miles. I trashed myself pretty well doing that.

That left me with having to walk most of the time for several hours following. I thought a lot about how in the world folks like you in much tougher conditions keep going. You all have big balls. I have tiny raisin sacs.
