Hardrock 100 Mi: Edging to the Start Line
Grant-Swamp Pass (those little dots on the left trail are runners. Epic) |
The Hardrock folks updated the wait list and I've moved to 16th on it. I feel like I'm going to get into the sucker. When I first applied and then saw I was on the wait list, I wasn't terribly excited and actually inwardly felt I didn't even want to run it. Now, I'm pretty fired up and will train as though I'm already in. My guess is that several folks hold on to their places in the race, even if injured or otherwise feel there's a chance they won't make it, just in case. They likely will pull the plug as July 8th approaches, thereby allowing me the opportunity to suffer for 30+ hours.
I pulled out of the mountain bike races this coming weekend and will likely just do a long run Saturday (likely the Boulder Skyline Traverse +, if anyone is interested in joining) and then a road cycling century (that's a 100 mile ride for those who who think clinchers might be some sort of sex tools) on Sunday up in Ft. Collins. I'm yearning to road ride anyway after watching the Giro (Tour of Italy) daily. The MTB race was just too far of a drive (Salida) and kind of expensive.

Feeling good after Ice Age and actually toyed with the idea of running Silver State 50 Mile in Reno but plane tickets cost more than a small child on the black market (not that I'd know first hand).
Oh, and the rain, enough already.
Good chance you'll get in, Tim. On 5/21 last year, Randy Wojno was sitting at 20 on the wait list. He was essentially the last person in last year (excluding Deb Pero, whose situation for getting in was a bit unique). Depending on how the list moves, you may need to be prepared to show up in Silverton the day before the race to get your spot, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks Homie. How far out from race day was your friend sitting at number 20? Or is that where he started on the list? I started at 29.
ReplyDeleteWow, more than $650? (Not that I'd know first hand either...)
ReplyDeleteWow, I hope you get in! I’m on the waiting list for a few races as well here in South Africa and always try to be ready as if I’m in. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou'd be better off buying the plane ticket than the small child, though... :) Have fun on the century - make sure to lather up the chamois before the long ride!!! Good luck on that lotto number - Hardrock would be epic!
ReplyDeleteHi johann. Yeah, lotteries suck (I assumed they were only part of Americas great consumer culture). Good luck with yours!
ReplyDeleteHey steve. At least with a small child I could get years of labor in return for the investment. Lathering up the chamois is the sole reason I cycle.
Isn't servitude the only reason to have kids..? ;-)
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for you for Hardrock!
ReplyDeleteI think you guys have the servitude thing backwards! I'm pretty sure I'm the servant to my child.
ReplyDeleteWord Verification = "injamiso" That's pretty cool sounding!
I think you should change the name of the post to "Edging to the Snowline!"
ReplyDeleteHistorically, it's not much different snow-wise than other years. Love me some glissading though!
ReplyDeleteContador is kicking bootie at the Giro - guess I need to contact my Spanish butcher and get some of those "special" steaks on order ;-)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see Armstrong, that lying sack of s@#$, do the perp walk. He probably brought his cancer on himself with a cocktail of PED's he was taking.
